For a half lap in which the members are parallel, the joint may be known as a " half lap splice ".
The most common form of the splice joint is the half lap splice, which is common in building construction, where it is used to join shorter lengths of timber into longer beams.
The same concept applies to lap splice length mentioned in the codes where splices ( overlapping ) provided between two adjacent bars in order to maintain the required continuity of stress in the splice zone.
